As the new year approaches, you might be thinking about your dealership’s strategy and goals for 2018. One of your goals might be finding the right software to help your team sell more cars in new, innovative ways while earning more loyal customers. In Part One, we explored three ways you can save money by purchasing new software during the holidays. Now, we’ll show you how acting now can help your dealership hit the ground running in the new year.

Stay Ahead of the New Year and the Competition

While ringing in the new year only takes a 10-second countdown, successfully implementing a new software is a longer process. Starting the process now will help your dealership stay ahead of the curve in the new year, and stay ahead of the competition.

Choosing a new software and getting it ready to go takes time. Software as a service, or subscription software, is typically one of the fastest and easiest types to implement. Even so, it can take at least 2-3 weeks to set up and customize to your business. Depending on how much customization you need, it may take longer.

In addition to setting up the new software, you’ll need to train your team. Successfully implementing a new software “is less about the tech and more about the people,” as TedX speaker Michael Brito puts it. Companies waste an estimated $6.6 billion on unused software in the U.S. every year. Make sure you get the full value out of your purchase by training your team.

Using the software as early in the year as possible makes it easier to measure performance from year to year. For instance, if you purchase new software, but don’t start using it until March, you won’t have as clear a view of the benefits due to variables like seasonality and current market trends.

Turn “Holiday Downtime” Into Development Time

While the end of the year is a busy time for your dealership, there are often slower days and times when most customers are spending time with their families and friends instead of shopping for cars. Are you putting that downtime to good use? It’s easier to implement new software and train your team during this holiday season downtime.

Experts recommend implementing a new software when business is slow. Fewer distractions lead to a higher success rates. Focus on implementing your new software the right way, with all the customizations and training your team needs, and you can be sure your money and time is well-spent.

Start Now to Maximize Your Savings

The end of the year is the perfect time for year-end software purchases. Get started now - you’ll put money in your stocking, make the most of holiday downtime, and give your dealership a head start in 2018.
